growing up my mother always had a fun little gingle to sing to us, she would sing before our birthdays and my personal favorite halloween :) i know its far past halloween to post, but my halloween was unforgettable and i have to share.

now that i am getting older, halloween is not a exciting as it once was. I am between ages, i am a little too old to go trick-or-treating, i don't go to crazy ragers and i don't have any children(nieces or nephews) to take out trick-or-treating. these unfortunate events usually leave me bored and without a purpose on halloween night, BUT not this year.

a few days before halloween my sister asked me if i would go trick-or-treating, i was a bit sckeptical at first because of our ages but she eventually brought me on board, i mean she was doing all the work i just really had to show up.

once i realized i was really going to do this i started to think of all the years i went trick-or-treating and my various costumes. i remember being so ecstatic when i was younger because it was the night i would trick-or-treat until i dropped! (reality was that my dad would just walk all the way home and get the car so i wouldn't have to walk alllll the way back to my house). i remember getting old enough to go with my childhood best friend without my parents, yes hers were there but the fact that mine weren't made the night almost better. the years of sorting and trading candy were rushing back to me. i was pretty excited to relive these memories, especially with my sister.

so it was halloween night, i carved my minnie mouse pumpkin and my mom sang her halloween song to me and i was out the door to get ready.

my sister had the brilliant idea to be gnomes this year. we needed a costume that wouldn't show our faces so whats the fix? beards of corse! putting everything ready i got more and more excited to roam the streets and hand out my bag to strangers in exchange of some free candy. and that we did! we got a ton of loot! i would have shown a picture but my brother has a notorious sweet tooth and took over all my candy (i think i've had two pieces since halloween), my next idea was to show all the wrappers, but he's been stashing them so i won't really see all he has eaten.

throughout the night we got many interesting comments and even were offered some alcoholic beverages, but the best part was to be a kid again with my best friend, my sister.

this past saturday i was pleasantly surprised to find a package on my bed from my dear friend katie. upon opening the package i discovered what a dear dear friend she really is.

the contents included:

a hand-drawn/doodled happy birthday banner

3 of her lovely hair accessories, a new cd, and the journal we've shared for the past year (also known as timmy) which was taken up to washington when she moved.

i reread our journal and reminiced on what an amazing friendship we had and still do!

for jh78 one of the things the 8th grade girls can be apart is salt- student leadership. we have monthly meetings and this month we thought we could turn up the heat and have a little chili cookout! everyone dressed up and for this event we had chili---nom.com if i can say so myself, line dancing, shooting, and a lasso station. the girls had a great time and so did the leaders :)

on rainy days on of my favorite things to do is snuggle up and surf the web. i like looking at fashion, recipes, and diy projects. and i originally wanted to post this on a rainy day for all those out there who are like me and are internet-crazed addicts and time just got a hold of me. but behold today is a stormy day and i said to myself just go blog! HUZZA! so here it is...

this summer i discovered this little gem at a thrift store. at 65cents i just couldn't say no.

I already knew where i wanted to put it and it sat there unfinished picture-less for what seemed like months but finally i had a moment to breath and i breathed in big deep breaths of spray paint fumes :)

upstairs i knew i wanted to paint it black, let it dry, paint it grey, let it dry, and then sand some down so the black will come out. in reality i was anything than patient so i painted it black then grey right away tried to sand it but it was too wet, so i just left it put a picture in it and put it up.

its fine for now, i do like looking at it and laughing at myself to see how inpatient i am. oh well it was only 65cents right? ;)

please come back home. life just isn't the same when you're not in the same city/state as me. i am feeling like it was the night we parted, sad and not wanting to admit the truth that we wont be together everyday anymore. the fact is there is just so much i want to tell you but i don't ever get the chance. and to be honest i am afraid we'll grow apart and i wont be your number 1 bestie anymore. right now all i have to hold on to is the many memories of sleepovers, letterboxng, cookies, and laughter but what is keeping me together is the possibility of coming to see you. i wish you the best of luck at school just as long as you promise me we'll always be best friends.

yes, you're thinking of the right place. oh no? you can't think of it? i'll give you a hint, its a 6 letter word, people have funny accents, and alcohol is ridiculously expensive! you guessed it, its CANADA!

back in august the fam bam packed up for 8 days and headed up to edmonton, alberta. our main purpose was to have a memorial for my grandmother who past away last novemeber, (yes as in november of 2009) but the trip also gave us the opportunity to bond with the cousins we have up there. it was a fun trip, long but fun, and its safe to say that everyone was happy to be home to palm trees, 70 degree + weather and REAL mexican food.

here are some highlights of the trip :)

we came home from this trip exhausted, worn out, and bickering but as strange as it sounds we all bonded quite a bit. with our extended family yes but always with the brooks clan and that is a trip well worth it. thanks cousins for an awesome trip, but how about you guys come down here next time, eh? ;)

earlier this summer i was lucky enough to travel with my junior high students up to northern california for some white water rafting. as leaders of you are supposed to make up a theme for your kids and carry it on for the whole week, in spirit of rafting i decided we were going to be the savvy sailors. it was a magnificent idea that transformed into awesome outfits and many looks of envy from other kids. i went all out for these girls and made buttons, hats and hand painted shirts. they are pretty snazzy if you ask me.

this week i had the time of my life. i am just thinking back and reminiscing to all the amazing times with my girls, the other kids and other leaders.

at night once the kids went to sleep all the leaders came together with the best snacks and got into a giant circle and had snackfest, which is basically pigging out until you were ready to pass out. once people filled out to go to bed it became just a small group of us and we made a new tradition, restfest where we slouched in our chairs, kicked our feet up onto one another, and told jokes into the wee hours of the night.

and i can't forget about the white water rafting! it was amazing to be in the middle of god's creation just soaking it all up. the rapids were awesome, the guides were amazing and the time out there was unforgettable.

i am sad to say white water 2010 is done but it was the highlight of my summer for sure. looking forward to ww2012!

this is by far the easiest dessert you could every make. there are 4 ingredients: ice cream sandwiches, fudge, cool whip and heath bars. makes your mouth water doesn't it?

you start by making a layer of ice cream sandwiches

and then add a layer of fudge

and then add a layer of cool whip and crush up some heath bars (the bite size ones work the best!)

then you repeat another layer or as many as you wish!

the other day i decided to make dinner for my family. what to make is always the question and i found an eggplant and a eggplant parmesan recipe here. i changed a few things to make it vegetarian so my brother could enjoy it as well. it turned out just scrumptious, my parents and our taste buds were thoroughly impressed!

a couple of weeks ago i went to the DAV and found some awesome finds for less that 7 bucks if i remember correctly. i found a silver dish and instantly i thought it was the perfect thing to hold some jewelry like a watch or some earrings. looking at it you could obviously see that it needed some work but with some silver polish i was able to make it shine.

peanut butter amazingness

PROOF that peanut butter and chocolate are the best when you put there together.

as i was looking for recipes online i found myself one for homemade peanut butter cups. instantly i knew i had to make these, i just cannot resist peanut butter and chocolate together or really any other dessert for that matter. i round this recipe at have cake, will travel but i did add my own little spin on them. i tripled the chocolate and doubled the peanut butter, with that it made an extraordinarily decadent morsel.

i made this for my brother on the day of his graduation because he really wanted it, when i told him i didn't have enough of the ingredients he said "well lets go to the store, i'll drive" hey you can't argue with that. and he loved them (in case you were wondering)

wow. time really flies, it's been a while but i just want to say i am back, in black. well maybe not always in black but it is my favorite color. but anyways, i am just saying that i am back to the blog world! i went underwater for a while but i have resurfaced and i am ready to BLOG YOUR FACE OFF!

I have two really good girl friends who have been wanting to get baptised before they embark off to college and my church offers a day to be baptised and we found out that friends and family could baptise you and they asked me to be the one that baptises them. It was a such an honor and memorable moment for me! I wasn't the best at it ( I almost drowned one!) but I don't think they would have wanted it any other way.

Recently I decided that I wanted to be a 7th grade small group leader at my church being now a summer into it I am falling in love. I love my girls and all the other leaders in the program!

In mid July we embarked to Yosemite for a week of no sleep, laughing attacks, way too much throw up, and so much girl leader bonding. And what a week was it! The rec time was lousy and my girls never wanted to do it, the food made your stomach turn at the sight of it, the band although fun to mess around with but were playing for the wrong crowd, but I wouldn't trade that week for the world and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Ode to the Graduates

I am now writing this at the end of summer looking back to a glorious day, my high school graduation. Sparks flew, emotions ran high, she even talked to me...opps sorry always quoting Dumb and Dumber. June 17, 2009 stands were crowed and the graduated excited but if you looked deep enough into their eyes you saw a hint of sadness about saying goodbye to Vista High and the past four years of their life

Ride, ride, ride

I would have to think that the last time I actually owned a bike was when I was a wee little girl on my white and pink bike. Oh what a bike, white wheels and streamers what more could a little girl ask for? To learn how to ride? Oh of course. My dad strapped some training wheels on that puppy and off I went, or did I? No he always made me ride in the grass..ugh so challenging and disappointing. But even then I had a plan B, if my dad will not teach me someone else will and who might that person be? My best friend Laura of course. No training wheels no cute little streamers just me the bike and her deck, oh of course she was holding onto me. Off i went my best friend taught me how to ride a bike how special. And you know the saying once you learn you'll never forget, I haven't forgotten since. So your asking now what was the point of this story? I'll tell you! I got a bike!!! Me little ol' me got a bike. A fabulous purple and white beach cruiser. My mom asked me if I wanted streamers I kinda laughed it off(cause I'm a big girl now) and said I'll settle for a bell ;)

When we were leaving the parking lot my mom said "Here Happy Graduation, now if you want to get a college graduation present then don't go and get married before like your sister did" Hmm I wonder what you'll get for graduating college, I got something way snazzy for high school i can only imagine...

This baby rocks I love taking her out on the road and my friend Emylee came back from Utah for about 10 days so we hit up the river trail and enjoyed a nice 20 mile bike ride :)

As I end senior year I close it off with prom. I've been lucky enough to go 4 times but since this was my senior year it was very special to me. It took me so long to find a dress and so fast to find matching shoes! It took forever to glue on fake eyelashes and so quick to rock out my hair. So once a season petco park gives the opportunity for two baseball teams in every league to come down and play at the stadium. This year lucky VHS was picked to play again Carlsbad. Friday night we all crammed in the mini van and headed down to San Diego and it was a blast. From the crazy dance music to the game we had a lot of fun :) too bad we lost...oh well better luck next time vista!

On the way home we made a pit stop to In-n-Out and of course the guys I was with wanted to do a photo shoot on the side of the drive through...crazy boys!

I am now a cougar. Okay get your mind out of the gutter not the one in the tv show, cougar the animal as in a Cal State San Marcos Cougar. Its official I got in, I accepted my offer, and I paid for my spot. So excited which is weird because at the beginning of the year I was so dead set on going away now I'm so stoked to stay here. Oh how much you can grow in high school.

Speaking of high school, I pretty much only have 6 weeks left to go, how CRAZY!!!! But now that I know what I am going to do next year I'm so ready to graduate. Although, I have met some really amazing people this year but most are staying close so it will be easy to keep in touch.

I'm just so excited that I finally made my decision and the best part is I probably wont be paying a dime. How sweet is that! Pretty freaking sweet if you ask me!

On Friday was toga day, yes sounds odd but Vista High has been doing that dress up day for seniors for quite some time. Finally its my year to star and four gals plus myself get our togas made and they are very dear to my heart.

No not the rap artist but the state. The hot place to go for spring break and guess what, that's where I went. My best friend Sally and I jetted off to Florida for a week long trip full of sun, laughter and the beach, and it was just that...we had a blast!

We stayed with her grandparents-Grandma and Papa, in their lovely home in the Cascades community (which is 18 years old and up, with a club house fully equipped with and indoor/outdoor pool, spa, work out room with a sauna, a ball room, a media room, not one but two card rooms, a craft room, and a billiards room) in Estero right out of Fort Myers. Papa took us all around and even let Sally drive his jag! Which is a crazy thing to do when you see her drive ;) (jk Sal!)

Her grandparents surprised us with Legally Blond The Musical Tickets (which was not bad) at the Phil and Parasailing. Also, her grandma packs the freezer with ice cream and made the best hot fudge...oh how I miss watching the NCAA basket ball games with a nice hefty bowl of Loaded Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream in my hands.

We also met up with our old small group leader Denisse and her husband Daniel and their new addition Lily who drove 4 hours just to see us. It was so nice and their baby was the cutest thing ever I just love kids!!

It was a trip to remember and it was definitely all we imagined it to be.

So for my chemistry class my teacher asked us to make a mole for extra credit. Yes, you heard correctly a mole. In chemistry its a measurement that's 602 trillion billion but she just wanted us to make a cute little mole. So I did just that, its a moleberry and very very cute....check it out!

My teacher said it was the cutest one she has ever seen, go me and Georgia...don't we make a great team?

Finally oh finally all my patience has paid off, I finally got my camera! I was supposed to get it by Christmas but it had been back order off the wazoo. But it finally reached my hands and its truly amazing. I've really wanted to get my hands into photography ever since I dipped them into it freshman year, and now I have an amazing Nikon D40 to do just that.

I didn't have much to take pictures of but here's a few shots, many many more to come.

As another well rounded 30 minutes of SSR came to an end this morning a bright red magazine danced in the corner of my eye. I thought to myself the new Seventeen? or Cosmogirl? Neither, it was Blueprint magazine, never heard of it? Me either till 10 am this morning, its one of Martha Stewart's magazine (no wonder its so amazing!). Dare I say this magazine is one of the best I have even dug my nose into, chalk full of organization tips, crafty ideas, recipes, clothing tips and everything in between. I ate it all up and looking through the valentine section I saw a pair of red Moschino Cheap and Chic patent leather pumps that I had to get my hands on, honestly the cutest shoes I have ever seen and I was going to get them no matter what...until my eyes drifted to the price tag that is. The $495 stuck out like a sore thumb, this is one of the times I wish I was one of those stuck up 90210 girls who rely on daddy's credit cards.

Over it and moving on, back to the magazine.

A hard and loud voice ripped my eyes off the pages dropping me back into chemistry class back into reality. But what hit harder than reality it my favorite magazine has stopped its production just as I was getting into the wonderful world of Blueprint.

Looking Back

Since I just got my wisdom teeth taken out to day I've been stuck in veg mode and I've been watching a lot of t.v. Earlier I was watching What Not To Wear (love that show) and this lady with strawberry blond hair and freckles was complaining about her self esteem and how when she was little she always got teased that she looked different. As a strawberry blond with freckles I just want to say thank you to everyone who didn't tease me but who embraced me and loves me for who I am and not what I look like. I couldn't imaging getting teased like some people did and still do and I am very grateful I've grown up around people so accepting. And I am very happy I, myself have embraced what I look like because it is so impotant to be comfortable in your own skin and I feel like I'm finally understanding that.

Man its good to have some down time to stop and think about life.

So pumped for the charger game today, it starts in 15 better make this fast!
So I wore my charger jersey to church today, and why no half of the church was wearing theirs. Hopefully they will win because that would just be amazing.

And I went to Costco today and I bought my new ipod, 120 GB of pure amazingness and its all mine. Totally worth the $250 I spent on it, and I learned my lesson to not lose it in the snow!

Oh and I had they best breakfast/lunch brunch? today at Beach Break Cafe on Coast Highway, honestly best french toast and hash browns everrrr. Too bad I'm so full maybe I just wont eat dinner!

Snow day

So I tell my friend lets do something fun this weekend, and she comes back at me with the most amazing plan; "Lets go to Palomar mountain and play in the snow!" So we did just that, our friend Bobby came and picked up my best friends Laura, Veronica along with me and we start out journey. Once my friend V hears its windy and she shudders a little because of her motion sickness, but she was fine I was not. My stomach was churning and Bobby's driving didn't help either, every time I asked him to calm it down he would do the opposite and I would just reply "Do you want me to blow chunks in your car or what?" Eventually once we stepped outside I was fine and we had a blast in the snow. It was cloudy and misty throughout the trees and it looked like something out of twilight.

We had snow ball fights and built snowmen and we attempted snow angels but that didn't work out so well.

Our friend Bobby was freezing the whole time, he wore vans, jeans and a little sweater poor boy. So after our fun we said lets get hot coco at the little shop! We ate apple pie and ate hot coco. On the way down we found a cd case full of cds and we were stoked until we opened it and found all Mexican dance music, but we did find some techno so we bumped that on the way down.

I was exhausted from work and my stomach was unhappy but my friends and I had one of the best days ever!

Who are we really? Why do we always strive for something bigger and greater? Why can we ever be content with our own self? Why are we constantly comparing our bodies to others, our cars to theirs, our life's to those around us when they are constantly insecure and self conscience about themselves. When are we going to realize God made us just the way we are on purpose? When are we going to realize we cannot be happy unless we are happy with ourselves? When will we realize our identity doesn't come from everyone else but deep within us? When will we put our wants are desires aside for something greater? When will we stop being apart of the evolution and start a revolution? Jesus invites us to be our true selves and yet we get side tracked and we get distracted and hung up on how we're different from her and how we're not like him, some people are smarter and some people have more money and some are stronger and some people have a certain body type its just how it is. We'll never live from our true selves when we're constantly comparing ourselves to those around us. We just need to take a step back and examine how great we are by looking at ourselves and only ourselves.

Isn't dreaming just the weirdest thing ever? Over the summer I didn't really remember any of my dreams but since school has started I have had the weirdest ones. For example the other night I was on the east coast maybe in Florida I'm not really sure but there were alligators chasing me and all of a sudden out comes my winter formal date from last year and totally saves me! It was a close one, thanks Robert! One night i got married to a vampire, but not the kind that drinks human blood but gets along with humans, it was so bizarre. My dreams have been ranging from school, work, obviously people, and the current books I have been reading. Its the strangest thing, I really wonder what they mean...I guess I will never find out, oh well.

Getting out at 12 on Fridays is the greatest thing since sliced bread! One good thing about going back to school is all the football games. They are my life in the fall, something about screaming till my voice is gone and seeing a bunch of sweaty guys tackle each other over and over again is just great! This year I decided why not be all school spirited and I got really inspired by the cheer leaders and all their cute red, black and white apparel at the scrimmage game we had today at Escondido High School. I really want to make a sweet shirt I can wear to the games, last year I tried but I failed miserably so this year I think I'm just going to take it to a shop and have the pros hook me up! Hopefully vista will step it up this year and make my senior year one I'll never forget.

p.s. My brothers loved the peanut butter cookies, I guess I did better than i thought.
